Houston Alexander's Mistake Costs Him at Home
By Tim Ngo | September 19, 2008
The whole reason that the UFC came to Nebraska was because of Houston Alexander. Unfortunately, Alexander had to face a very good Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighter in Eric Schafer as UFC Fight Night 15.Alexander looked the same as he did against Thiago Silva at UFC 78 when he was impressive on his feet but failed to keep it there. “We did exactly what we wanted to do in the first four minutes. Conditioning was there, again wrong position, wrong time.” Alexander told reporters after the fight.
The wrong position would be him being on his back because he still hasn’t been able to figure out how to properly defend himself while on his back against a legitimate Jiu-Jitsu grappler.
His gameplan was very simple, “obviously I wanted to stand up with him, my takedown defenses were great, again just one mistake.” Alexander continued.
It’ll be very interesting to see where Houston Alexander goes from here, as he’s lost his last three fights in the UFC against fellow up-and-coming light heavyweights.
