UFC veteran Joe Riggs fought and won a bout in Prescott Valley, AZ this past weekend when he competed in the main event of a "Rage in the Cage" show. He defeated Miletich Fighting Systems trained Matt Dempsey via rear-naked choke in the second round. It was Riggs first fight since returning to action after sustaining a back injury in February while he fought against Cory Devela under the "Strikeforce" banner. He was supposed to take on Luke Stewart on June 27th for "Strikeforce" but the California State Athletic Commission wouldn't clear him for the bout after he disclosed an unspecified prescription medication he was taking.
Riggs replaced Edwin Dewees in the main event as Dewees was asked to fill in for Vernon White against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira for the Affliction: Banned card last weekend. The bout marked Riggs first win in nearly a year. He is believed to be fighting again in September for "Strikeforce". The event is rumored to be taking place at the Playboy Mansion and is tentatively scheduled for September 20.
