Matt Hughes Eyes Early '09 Return
By Matthew Brothers | July 22, 2008
Through an update on his blog, Matt Hughes has let the MMA world know that they'll likely have to wait 6-7 months before seeing him in the octagon again. Hughes injured his knee in his TKO loss to Thiago Alves back in June. The diagnosis was a partially torn ACL ligament in his knee."He performed quite a few tests on my knee," Hughes wrote regarding his doctor. "With the results of the tests on my knee and from what I have told him, he definitely thinks the MCL and the PCL is rebuilding itself."
That's good news for fight fans as many are still waiting to see an eventual match-up between Hughes and his rival from "TUF", former 170lb. champ Matt Serra. The two welterweights were scheduled to fight each other in December of '07 but a back injury forced Serra out of the match.
Hughes is widely regarded to be the most dominant welterweight in the history of the sport. Only time will tell if he'll have a storybook ending to his career.
