Oscar De La Hoya Officially Steps Away From MMA
Oscar De La Hoya recently made waves within the MMA community when it was revealed his promotion company, Golden Boy Promotions, and Affliction, a popular MMA clothing company, were in serious discussions to team up and promote MMA events. The two sides couldn't reach an agreement however, and parted over control issues.

De La Hoya officially confirmed that he was taking his hat out of the MMA ring for now in order to focus on building the sport of boxing.

“We decided that we are going to focus all our energies on promoting boxing," said De La Hoya at a recent press conference. "Boxing is the game that we have to focus on because there’s so much room for growth and the potential is enormous. We definitely want to capitalize on that and have all our focus and energy be on taking boxing to another level.”

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer elaborated further on the popular promotion company's decision to rule out an entry into MMA at this time, but stopped short of completely ruling out a move into the sport at some point in the future.

“The time is not now. MMA is going through some very rough patches and transition issues…recently two companies that are public had FCC filings that raised doubt about their ability to continue. We want to see what’s going to happen with the sport. Maybe we will enter the MMA business to diversify in the future,” said Schaefer referring to EliteXC and the IFL.

De La Hoya recently bested a game Steve Forbes in a lopsided unanimous decision and now turns his attention toward a second "super fight" with Floyd Mayweather Jr. The fight is likely to occur sometime this fall.
