Cheick Kongo will face Dan Evensen at
UFC 87 “Seek and Destroy” on August 9th in Minnesota. The fight was announced by Kongo yesterday on his MySpace page.
Kongo (11-4) made a big splash in the UFC by derailing MMA legend Mirko Cro Cop last September at UFC 75, but subsequently dropped a split decision to Heath Herring and is looking to get back on track with a win in Minnesota.
Evensen (10-2) who is entering the UFC from Bodog Fight, is currently riding a four fight win streak, but has yet to be tested against a fighter of Kongo caliber.
This is the third fight added to UFC 87 which features a heavyweight contest between Brock Lesnar and Mark Coleman and a lightweight eliminator fight between Kenny Florian and Roger Huerta; the winner of which will likely square off against the winner of this Saturday's lightweight title match up between BJ Penn and Sean Sherk.
