Randy Couture: "I will fight Fedor Emelianenko."
Randy Couture attended the HDNet Fights in Dallas, TX on Saturday night to support friend and training partner Frank Trigg. During the broadcast, Couture was asked about his status and his future with the UFC.

“I am not retired,” Couture responded. “I am waiting for my UFC contract to expire. I will fight Fedor Emelianenko.”

Couture said that the soonest he could fight Emelianenko would be in October of 2008 as he intends to ride out his separated fight and employment contracts with the UFC which expire in July and October respectively.

Couture's comments during the broadcast garnered lots of attention again during the post-fight press conference where he elaborated further on his plans to ride out his current UFC contract.

“I’m not sure what’s going to happen with me at this point,” Couture said. “I have a contract with the UFC that I have to honor. I can’t breach that or I’ll end up in litigation, so I don’t intend to do that.

Couture also gave his thoughts on Fedor's upcoming opponent at Yarennoka.

“Obviously, it’s a big guy, and it’s still a fight,” he said. “Anything can happen in a fight… The guy can hit you across the ring as soon as the bell rings, so who knows. I hope it goes successfully for him because I want to be the first one to beat him,” he said.
