Not Robbie Lawler, the reigning UFC welterweight champion.
Not Rory MacDonald, a top contender.
Neil Magny owns the longest win streak in the UFC’s 170-pound division, making it six in a row with a third round submission at UFC Fight Night 60 over Kiichi Kunimoto Saturday night.
Magny (14-3), who lost twice in 2013 after competing on The Ultimate Fighter, earned his first submission victory inside the Octagon.
“One of my personal goals was to get a submission in the Octagon,” he said. “I wanted to show off my skills.”
Last year, Magny scored two finishes via knockout and three decisions, including his UFC record tying performance vs. William Macario.
Despite the incredible calendar year, Magny has yet to find his name ranked among the Top-15 in the division. But he doesn’t sound worried about it, either.
“I’m going to go back to the gym on Monday and wait for Joe Silva to give me a call,” he said. “See what’s next.”
