Neil Magny Bounces Back, Humbles Erick Silva

ufc fight night 74

After putting together an incredible seven-fight win streak, Neil Magny was bested by Demian Maia earlier this month.

When the opportunity to replace Rick Story came about and fight Erick Silva at UFC Fight Night 74, Magny jumped. He delivered, scoring a split decision victory over Silva in the co-main event.

“It was more of a mental approach,” Magny said. “Demian Maia did a great job of keeping me humble, so I’m just going to get back in the gym.

“I listened to my coaches more,” Magny said. “I got back to listening to them and doing what the game plan was.”

Magny (16-4) had earned finishes in four of those seven wins prior to falling via submission to Maia. Despite having just a “four-day” training camp, he was able to avoid the striking of Silva and control him.

Silva (18-6) saw his two-fight win streak snapped with the loss and fell to 4-3 over his last seven.
