It was hard to understand due to the censors, but Nate Diaz called out Conor McGregor Saturday night.
After besting Michael Johnson in his first fight in over a year at UFC on FOX 17, Diaz released an expletive-laden tirade that was blocked out by FOX.
During the actual fighting, though, Diaz (18-10) looked the part of a contender. McGregor, of course, recently unified the UFC featherweight titles and made it known he was looking to compete for lightweight gold next.
Last December, Diaz suffered a decision loss to Rafael dos Anjos, stopping the momentum he generated by defeating Gray Maynard. Prior to that, he had lost to Josh Thomson and Benson Henderson.
Despite his post-fight words, Diaz did have a few things to say regarding his bout vs. Johnson after he left the Octagon.
“I planned on him coming out fast and hard, so I figured he’d probably slow down,” he said. “I was just making sure I wasn’t in a hurry and trying to make sure he didn’t get too far ahead. I heard my coach and my corner telling me to open up a bit more, so I was just coasting and trying to be smart instead of reckless.”
