Myles Jury has yet to taste defeat in six Octagon appearances, including a victory over Takanori Gomi Saturday at UFC Fight Night 52.
With a sparkling record and a handful of finishes on his resume, Jury feels the UFC title is in his future.
“It’s cool that apparently I’m ranked now, but I feel like if I keep doing the right things right and taking fights and getting better, they can’t deny me for the title forever,” Jury said during the post-fight press conference (thanks to MMAjunkie.com for the quotes). “(Gomi) was 3-1 in his past four fights and he’s always dangerous. Even if the people and critics don’t move me up the ranks, I still think for a personal victory, it’s really good for my confidence.”
Jury (15-0) stormed out of the gates against Gomi, finishing him less than two minutes into the first round. He has also defeated Diego Sanchez, Mike Ricci, Ramsey Nijem, Michael Johnson and Chris Saunders since his time on The Ultimate Fighter. His current run shows that he can withstand some of the top names in the division, and Jury feels he has proven his worth.
“Fighting guys like Gomi is just good for my name, my brand, because everybody knows who he is,” Jury said. “Everybody tunes in when he fights. Getting a win over him just kind of cements my name in people’s brain so they’ll remember me.
“Next time I fight, hopefully they’ll tune in.”
