Olivier Aubin-Mercier did a little dance despite being exhausted at UFC 186 Saturday night.
Aubin-Mercier, competing in his native home of Montreal, locked up a rear-naked choke on David Michaud in the third round, moving to 2-1 with the UFC and 6-1 overall. His lone career loss came in the finals of The Ultimate Fighter: Nations to Chad Laprise.
Aubin-Mercier dominated for much of the contest, using his effective striking and superior wrestling to keep Michaud at bay. The submission win was the sixth of his career and the fifth via the rear-naked choke.
“He’s a wrestler, so I knew he would be really tough (to submit),” he said. “I had to work my (expletive) off.”
Last October, Aubin-Mercier earned an inverted triangle kimura submission win over Jake Lindsey inside the Octagon.
