Now, I’m not trying to say I am like Chris Weidman in any way, shape or physical form.
However, I do feel a sort of attachment to Weidman, T.J. Dillashaw and countless others who have pulled monumental upsets that stunned the MMA world.
Let me explain.
I was asked to do a fantasy football league with a host of fellow MMA writers and even fighters earlier this year. Now, due to a snafu, I missed the actual draft, but those in attendance didn’t completely leave me out to dry.
Among the more notables in the league are Ultimate Fighter alum Adam Cella, former fighter and current Invicta FC matchmaker Julie Kedzie, writers Heidi Fang and Stephie Daniels, and both Tommy Toe Hold and Tony Thumb Poke.
Some of the top players I was drafted – despite my absence – were DeMarco Murray, Eddie Lacy and Russell Wilson. Those three are all viable contributors for me, but the rest of my lineup has taken shape through free agency. That’s where I added Jeremy Hill, Josh Gordon and Odell Beckham, Jr.
Things didn’t really go as planned through the early portion of the year, as my team struggled mightily out of the gates. I lost my first three before picking up a pair of wins over Kedzie and Fan in Weeks 4 and 5. A four-game losing streak followed, and my hopes of a playoff run appeared over.
