After a brief hiatus, The MMA Word is back with another episode on Fightline.com. Another busy MMA weekend is in the books, and Andrei Arlovksi catapulted himself into the UFC’s Top 10 rankings with a vicious first-round knockout of Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva at UFC Fight Night 51 in Brazil on Saturday. It’s been an interesting time outside of the cage, so this week, we are joined by Fightline’s own Jim Genia, see also: TheMMAJournalist.com, to discuss all the chaos. Here’s whats lined up for this week’s episode:
UFC/Bellator – The Saga Continues: A few weeks ago Bellator and the UFC put on head-to-head events down the street from each other, and we discuss what was perhaps the night’s lowest point, Stephan Bonnar and Tito Ortiz’s faux-melee complete with the unmasking of an underwhelming mystery training partner, Justin McCulley.
Tuf 20 Initial Thoughts: The Ultimate Fighter: A Champion Will Be Crowned is underway, and Jim & I give our thoughts on the structure of this season, the franchise as a whole, and Tecia Torres getting eliminated in the first episode. Spoiler alert?
Ben Askren Shutdown: OneFC welterweight champion Ben Askren had a controversial ran on AXSTV’s Inside MMA cut short a few weeks ago, and we break down what happened, and whether or not Askren will wind up fighting inside the Octagon.
UFC Resigns Thiago Silva: UFC light heavyweight Thiago Silva was resigned by the UFC last week after his charges stemming from a domestic violence incident were dropped. We discuss the importance of due process in America and whether the UFC should or shouldn’t have resigned Silva.
