It is official. Eddie Alvarez is now a UFC fighter after a long and drawn out legal battle with his former promoter, which saw him ultimately step back in the Bellator cage one more time and win back the lightweight championship. His stock is now as big as ever as he heads into his Octagon debut at UFC 178 against Donald Cerrone.
–-This week on the podcast we will be joined by Fightland.com’s Shawn Smith (@Shawn_W_Smith) and we will be talking about all the recent moves Bellator has made under their new president Scott Coker.
–In other Bellator and UFC related happenings, both promotions are holding shows on September 5th in Connecticut. We will be taking a look at the two cards and the implications of the two events being so close.
–We also discuss the state of the UFC’s light heavyweight division, and where some of the top fighters should go from here. What should be next for Gustafsson, Rumble Johnson, and Ryan Bader? Shawn and I give our thoughts on whether Alexander Gustafsson should have gotten his title shot back against Jon Jones after it was moved to January, and whether or not the Jones/Cormier feud will cool down after their confrontation.
No video version this week, but we will be back on Youtube next time.
