The MMA Word is a weekly video podcast that features interviews with mixed martial artists and prominent figures from around the world of combat sports. Host Michael Wellman gives his views and opinions on the latest headlines in MMA, as well as fight previews and recaps. For Episode 41, Mike is joined by CES MMA fighters Charles Rosa and Luis Felix.
With the cancellation of UFC 176, mixed martial arts fans were left with a three-week gap between events, that has us all yearning for fights. Or not. The lack of actual fights didn’t impact the news cycle, which gave us news about Anderson Silva vs. Nick Diaz and a potential fight between Donald Cerrone and Eddie Alvarez. Two UFC fighters failed fight-night drug tests earlier this month, and Joe Riggs shot himself in the thigh and hand while cleaning his gun.
There is no UFC coming up this week, but CES MMA will be making their AXSTV debut this Friday, headlined by a lightweight title fight between Luis Felix and Julian Lane. The card also features a few other well-known New England fighters, and we’ve got a couple of them on the podcast this week. Here is what is in store for Episode #41:
–Super Bowl weekend gets a Superfight: Anderson Silva and Nick Diaz are going to fight in the main event of of UFC 183 in early 2015. I give my thoughts on the match-up and why it will be as epic as it sounds.
–Fights Announced: Teixeira vs Davis at UFC 179, Moraga vs. Scoggins at Fight Night 50. We’ll go over a few of the fights announced over the past week.
–Charles Rosa Interview: Undefeated fighter Charles Rosa joins us this week to talk about his fight this Friday at CES MMA 25. We also discuss his culinary career as well as his 20 amateur fights that took place between 20110 and 2012.
–Cerrone vs. Alvarez?!: Sherdog reported this week that this fight is in the works, and I give my thoughts on the matchup as well as why allowing Eddie to leave Bellator is not a bad move by the new regime.
–Luis Felix Interview: The #1-ranked lightweight in the Northeast joins us to talk about his last fight, which was a head-kick knockout of Drew Fickett, and his lightweight title fight set for this Friday against Julian Lane at CES MMA 25.
