At UFC Fight Night 46 in Dublin, Ireland, Conor McGregor lived up to the hype and didn’t succumb to the pressure of main eventing his first UFC event, in his hometown, in front of one of the loudest crowds ever, after a year-long layoff. He didn’t miss a step in his fight with Diego Brandao, finishing him by TKO in the very first round. He wasn’t the only fighter who put on a dominat performance over the past week inside the Octagon, as Fight Night 45 a few days earlier in Atlantic City New Jersey, served up eight fights that didn’t leave it in the hands of the judges.
Theres been a lot of action inside the Octagon over the past week, and there’s more on-deck for this Saturday’s epic UFC on Fox 12 card. Between Joe Proctor’s hematoma, Nate Diaz and his hashtag game, and Ronda Rousey’s ESPY Award, we’ve got a lot to get to on the podcast. Here’s what is in store for this week’s episode:
–Donald Cerrone Finishes Jim Miller Twice: At Fight Night 45, Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone established himself as a top contender in the UFC’s lightweight division. He was slated to face Khabib Nurmagomedov, before he got a knee injury. I recap the action from Atlantic City and share my thoughts on what might be next for Cowboy.
–Fight Night Dublin: The Irish fans were loud and the Irish fighters on the card all left victorious. I give my thoughts on the memorable Fight Pass event and what we really learned from Conor McGregor’s performance in the main event.
–The ESPYs get Rowdy: Ronda Rousey won the 2014 ESPY for Best Female Athlete. I give my take on what it means for MMA to nab its first mainstream sports award, and why the ESPY’s need a “Best MMA Fighter” award instead of just “Best Fighter”
–Mighty Mouse vs Cariaso: The recently announced flyweight title fight for UFC 177 has been getting some flack from fans and media. I share my opinion on why it isnt such a bad fight, and why having the flyweight belt and the bantamweight belt defended on the same night is a good idea, and should continue.
–UFC on Fox 12 Preview: It is finally upon on. Fight week for what could be the fight of the decade. Robbie Lawler and Matt Brown are going to fight. Against each other. I break down the fights set for the main card and give some predictions.
