The MMA Word is a weekly video podcast, where host Michael Wellman offers up his views and opinions on the latest headlines in mixed martial arts, as well as interviews with fighters and prominent figures from around the world of combat sports. For Episode #34, Mike recaps UFC 174, looks ahead at some of the biggest fights of the summer, and breaks down the news of the past week in mixed martial arts.
UFC 174 is in the books and Demetrious Johnson is still the UFC flyweight champion. “Mighty Mouse” put on a clinic against Ali Bagautinov, and has now officially cleared out the top of the division and faces the prospect of defending his title in a series of rematches with fighters he’s already beaten. The UFC’s trip to Vancouver wasn’t the most memorable of UFC events, as reports were that fans were leaving the building in droves during the main event.
This week on the show, we will be recapping all of the action (which won’t take very long) from UFC 174, as well as going over some of the more absurd aspects of the Chael Sonnen Saga, which has seemingly come to a close.
‘MMA Headlines’ is back with a round-up of the rest of the news from the past week, including Patrick Cummins’ next fight, the arrival of the strawweights, and a big change to Bellator’s tournament structure that will seemingly allow Michael Chandler to leap-frog Will Brooks for a shot at the lightweight title.
And lastly, we will close out the show with a countdown of the five most-anticipated fights of the summer. I break down which five fights you should definitely stay inside for, including a few runner-ups that are also worth your time.
