The MMA Word Episode #21 (UFC 168 Recap, Best of 2013 w/ Chris Leslie)

The MMA Word mixed martial arts podcast returns this week on, after a rollercoaster of an event that was UFC 168.  Chris Weidman defeated Anderson Silva by TKO when Anderson’s shin snapped on Weidman’s knee and he was immediately taken out of the octagon on a stretcher and to the hospital for surgery.  In the night’s other title fight, UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey retained her title with a third-round armbar over Meisha Tate.  This week on the podcast my guest is Chris Leslie of, and here’s what’s up for discussion on the show:

–UFC 168 Prelims:  We discuss who had standout performances on the prelim portion of the card, which featured Uriah Hall’s return to form as he decimated Chris Leben and made a dazed Leben quit on his stool between rounds. We talk about that fight and some of the bright spots from the career of Chris Leben.

–Winners from the main card:  We break down the fights from the UFC 168 main card, and discuss what might be next for fighters like Dustin Poirier and Jim Miller, and the official “title talk” for Travis Browne has begun.  we talk about his huge victory over Josh Barnett and what we learned about the Hawaiian on Saturday Night.  We take a look at what 2014 might hold for Ronda Rousey, who is now slated to face fellow Olympian Sara McMann at UFC 170 in February.

–2013 is over.  It’s finished.  We  rattle off a few of our favorite submissions and knock0uts from the past year, and give our choices for Submission of the Year, Knockout of the Year, Fight of the Year, Card of the Year, and Fighter of the Year.
