The MMA Word mixed martial arts podcast is back with another episode on Fightline.com, and for Episode 19 we are joined once again by Chris Leslie from MMAFrenzy.com. Here’s what we’ve got lined up this week:
–Chris and I recap the action from UFC on Fox 9, where UFC flyweight champion Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson sent Joseph Benavidez to the dream world with a first round knockout. We give our take on whether or not we think Johnson is the UFC’s fighter of the year, and whether or not we’d bring our shorts and/or mouthpiece to the arena on fight night. We also talk about what the future might hold for bantamweight top contender Urijah Faber after his submission win over Michael McDonald. We also pick through all the decisions on the prelim portion of the card to find the night’s most impressive performances.
–We try to get ok with the recent announcement by Georges St. Pierre that he is vacating the welterweight title and leaving mixed martial arts indefinitely. We talk whether or not we’ll ever see Georges in the cage again and where the welterweight division goes from here.
–The UFC is scooping up 11 female strawweight fighters from Invicta FC and plugging them in to a 16 bracket tournament to crown the first UFC strawweight champion, on the 20th season of The Ultimate Fighter. We talk about the potential matchups in the TUF house and what it all means for Invicta and their President & owner Shannon Knapp.
