Mike Richman received a two-year suspension from the California Athletic Commission recently for taking an anabolic steroid.
Richman, a former bantamweight contender, accepted the punishment from the CAC and issued a statement via Facebook:
Richman was also fined $2,500 for the failed drug test, which came after a May bout vs. Eduardo Dantas. He lost that contest via decision, falling to 18-6 in his career.
Bellator released a statement of its own regarding the matter, which also included a 90-day suspension for Fernando Gonzalez, who tested positive for marijuana.
“Andy Foster of the California State Athletic Commission has notified us of two positive tests following Bellator 137, Mike Richman for PEDs and Fernando Gonzalez for marijuana. We’ve been informed that these fighters will be subject to suspensions and a fines. We here at Bellator stand behind the commission 100-percent in this process and remain committed to keeping MMA clean of substance abuse.”
