Mike Pyle got the taste of defeat out of his mouth with a third round stoppage victory over TJ Waldburger Saturday night at UFC 170.
After catching Waldburger with several knees, Pyle finally was able to string together a number of strikes in the final moments of the last round, earning his ninth Octagon victory.
Last August, Pyle (26-9-1) had his four-fight win streak snapped by Matt Brown after he was knocked out in the opening round.
“He was tough, and hit me with some good shots,” said Pyle, of Waldburger. “I fully expected a battle and that’s what I got.”
Pyle nearly had a guillotine choke secured in the third, but said Waldburger “slipped out.” That’s when he went to work with the ground-and-pound.
“We prepared fully for (Waldburger),” he said. “They got me (ranked) at No. 15, let’s get in the Top-10.”
