Miesha Tate On Amanda Nunes: “She’s Really Dangerous”

ufc 200

Amanda Nunes has knocked out nine of her 12 career wins, including via leg kicks and elbows.

Miesha Tate knows all this.

Tate will defend her bantamweight title at UFC 200 in July against Nunes, as she makes her first defense since besting Holly Holm.

While many wondered if Holm would get an immediate rematch, or if the UFC would try to coax Ronda Rousey back, they instead went with the unknown in Nunes.

“She’s really tough,” said Tate, during her co-hosting duties on a recent episode of UFC Tonight. “She’s on a three-fight win streak. She’s really dangerous. I asked to fight the next best person in line and that’s what they told me.

“I’m very, very excited for my first title defense. Ronda is out until November or December and Holly – it was her first defense and she wasn’t successful. I finished her.”

Tate locked up a fifth round submission on Holm in a bout that would have been closely scored had it gone the distance. The former Strikeforce champion joined Luke Rockhold and Rousey as the only fighters to secure gold in both the UFC and Strikeforce with her win.

When asked about facing Rousey for a third time, Tate stated she is “at the top of my game.”

“I think if she wants it, she should get it,” she added. “She was the best for a long time. She has a tall order. I’m at the top of my game. I’m on a five-fight win streak and I have an amazing camp behind me. I’m ready to defend this thing.”
