Michael Bisping Wanted GSP Fight “For My Legacy”

Michael Bisping owns wins over Anderson Silva and Dan Henderson.

But the reigning UFC middleweight champion can trump both of those later this year when he defends his title against Georges St-Pierre.

During Wednesday night’s “UFC Tonight” program, Bisping explained how the bout with the former UFC welterweight titleholder came together. UFC president Dana White announced it earlier in the day on ESPN.

“This fight was offered me last October, but it didn’t work out,” Bisping said. “Then I got a call a week ago from Dana White and was offered the fight. GSP is a legendary fighter. He’s one of the biggest pay-per-view draws. This is a no-brainer.”

While many believed Bisping would defend his title against top contender Yoel Romero, “The Count” acknowledged just how important this fight is to his career.

“If you’re Yoel Romero, Luke (Rochold) or (Ronaldo) ‘Jacare’ (Souza), I know if you were offered this fight, you’d take this fight,” he said. “I want this fight for my legacy. I’ve beaten Dan Henderson and Anderson Silva. Georges St-Pierre is another legend that I want to add to my resume.”
