Max Holloway Really Wants Conor McGregor In Ireland

At just 24 years of age, Max Holloway has a bright future ahead of himself.

But, if the Hawaiian has anything to say about it, that future will happen sooner rather than later.

Appearing on Submission Radio recently, Holloway (15-3) discussed his comments about facing UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor in his native country of Ireland.

“I want that, I want that,” he said. “It’s icing on the cake. What would be a bigger win? Me fighting him at Vegas, or me fighting him at Croke Park? You know, of course Croke Park is cooler.”

Holloway has now won eight straight since taking McGregor to the scorecards in 2013. He is still the only fighter to do that since “Notorious” signed with the UFC.

After the loss, Holloway took the rest of the year off. He returned in 2014 and earned a TKO over Will Chope. A submission win over Andre Fili followed, with finishes of Clay Collard and Akira Corassani rounding out the year.

He stepped up the competition in 2015, besting Cole Miller, Cub Swanson via submission, earning a TKO over Charles Oliveira and concluding it all by defeating Jeremy Stephens.

Many view Frankie Edgar as the No. 1 contender, while former champion Jose Aldo also looms larger. Either would be a viable for in Holloway’s eyes.

“I think it’d be one for the ages. Jose likes to fight, I like to come and fight and stand up and he likes to stand up. So I think it’d be a fun one. I think it would sell a lot of numbers too, a lot of tickets. So we’ll see. I’m just waiting to see what UFC wants. If that’s the fight they want and that gets me closer to a title shot, why not?” he said. “I’d love to get that fight too. Frankie Edgar is another big name, and I think if can get a win over his name, it definitely helps my title shot stuff. Me and him are like the contenders right now inside the 145 division, and you know, it’s up in the air who gets the next title shot. So I’d love to fight him, you know, earn my way.”
