Mauricio “Shogun” Rua is currently booked for another light heavyweight bout, but it could be one of the final times. The former UFC light heavyweight champion is open to cutting to middleweight.
“My normal weight is 228, 231 pounds,” said Rua during a recent Q&A. “Maybe I can [drop to 185] and maintain my performance. I would need to think about it, but that’s something that can happen.”
He returns against James Te-Huna at UFC Fight Night 33. Rua has lost two straight to Alexander Gustafsson and Chael Sonnen.
Te-Huna had his four fight win streak snapped by Glover Teixeira in May of this year. He’s currently 16-6.
They are the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 33 on December 7. It’s from Australia’s Brisbane Entertainment Centre.
