Matt Riddle Retires Right Before Bellator Debut

Former UFC fighter Matt Riddle has surprised many, announcing his retirement with just over a week until he debuts for Bellator. Riddle took to twitter and spoke about an injury that has caused him to reevaluate his life.

“I’m retiring from MMA today, I cracked my rib and I can’t fight sept 20th @BellatorMMA can’t give me a fight this year so I can’t afford it!”

The UFC released Riddle when he failed his second drug test for marijuana. His two wins were overturned and he’s officially 7-3-2 NC as a pro. Riddle’s entire career was under the UFC banner.

No word on who Bellator will replace Riddle with in the Season 9 welterweight tournament.
