Lyoto Machida had to sit down during his post-fight interview on FOX Sports 1 Saturday night after defeating Gegard Mousasi at UFC Fight Night 36.
“The Dragon,” a former UFC light heavyweight champion, stated he believes he may have broken his foot in the third round of his five-round decision victory.
“I don’t know what happened, I don’t know if I broke my foot or not,” Machida admitted. “I didn’t think about my foot (for the rest of the fight), I just tried to keep the focus on the fight because I know Mousasi is a tough opponent.”
Machida improved to 2-0 at middleweight since dropping and could be the next contender for the UFC title. Current champion Chris Weidman is scheduled to face Vitor Belfort later this year, but a broken foot could keep him on the sidelines for an extended amount of time.
