Luke Rockhold’s name was quickly mentioned as a possible late-minute fill-in to face Vitor Belfort at July’s UFC 175 card after news broke of Chael Sonnen’s failed drug test.
Rockhold, who has been gunning for a rematch with Belfort almost immediately following his loss in Brazil, took to Twitter to explain why that can’t happen at the moment.
“My toe is still broken,” said Rockhold, who is coming off back-to-back first round stoppage wins over Tim Boetsch and Costas Philippou this year. “I haven’t stepped foot inside AKA since my fight. I’m not crazy. I can’t fight in three weeks as much as I would like to.”
Belfort was tabbed to replace Wanderlei Silva for the fight after Silva refused his drug test recently in Nevada. “The Phenom” has stopped using TRT, something he was on during his win over Rockhold.
“Will Vitor even pass his test that is the question?” Rockhold added on the social media site.
Rockhold was the last Strikeforce middleweight champion. The loss to Belfort was his first since a 2007 TKO defeat in his second pro fight to Tony Rubalcava.
