Luke Rockhold couldn’t believe what happened following UFC 199.
Rockhold was floored by Michael Bisping, dropping the UFC middleweight title in his first title defense Saturday night.
After catching a shot in the first round that dropped him, Rockhold got back to his feet only to be met by another left. He didn’t get up from this one, falling in the rematch with Bisping.
“Congrats to Michael, he caught me,” Rockhold said. “I didn’t see it happening. I took him for granted.”
In the first meeting, Rockhold locked up a second round submission on Bisping. He was scheduled to defend his title against Chris Weidman but an injury sidelined Weidman and Bisping took the contest on 17 days notice.
“I could have capitalized and fought my fight instead of playing around with him,” Rockhold said. “I have to give him respect in the cage.”
