Despite the thinking of many others, UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta doesn’t believe the promotion is stretching the roster too thin.
After postponing – in the words of the UFC – UFC 176 recently, Fertitta appeared on FOX Sports Live to discuss the decision.
“I don’t think so,” Fertitta said. “I think sometimes these come and go, and ebb and flow. Last year we went through the entire year and I don’t think we had to replace one card. Overall, at the end of the day, we have all of these guys coming back. The lineup in the fall is going to be pretty strong.”
When Jose Aldo, the reigning featherweight champion, was forced to pull out of a planned main event with Chad Mendes on August 2, the UFC decided to scrap the entire event. It marked the second such decision made, as they also canceled a card when Jon Jones declined a short notice light heavyweight title defense vs. Chael Sonnen two years ago.
