In Lavar Johnson’s final UFC outing, he was defeated and released when his post-fight drug test returned with an elevated testosterone level. The heavyweight now admits to taking TRT and not disclosing it to the athletic commission.
“It was my mistake,” said Johnson on The MMA Hour. “I was taking such little amounts. Me and my doctor didn’t think anything was going to pop up, like it’s no big deal. I guess any time you’re taking any kind of testosterone it’s going to show on the test. So that’s basically what I got popped for.”
The 36-year-old took a nine month suspension, which was reduced to six months when he produced a prescription. Johnson will look to snap his two fight losing skid at Bellator 102 opposite Vinicius Queiroz. It will be Queiroz’s second tournament attempt, having made it to the semifinals of the Season 7 heavyweight tournament.
Johnson-Queiroz is half of the Season 9 heavyweight tournament. The other end sees former UFC fighter Cheick Kongo vs. Mark Godbeer.
Both semifinal fights happen tomorrow, October 4, at Bellator 102. It comes from California’s Visalia Convention Center.
