“Korean Zombie” Jung Chan-Sung left the Octagon a mess at UFC 163. He closed the show against featherweight champion Jose Aldo, who left the victor when the doctor waived the fight in the fourth round. The damage included surgery on Chan-Sung’s shoulder and a fractured orbital bone.
“Right after the fight, all I felt was pain,” said Chan-Sung to Bloody Elbow. “After that, it was just sort of numbness. After preparing for so long and anticipating the fight for so many years … to lose like that left me feeling empty.”
The former No. 1 contender expects to be back in the gym in 10 months. He’s already been out for two.
Chan-Sung was a replacement for an injured Anthony Pettis. The defeat also halted his three fight win streak. They included Submission of the Year for 2011 and Fight of the Year for 2012.
Aldo has no return date for the UFC.
