Khabib Nurmagomedov was forced to the hospital hours before weigh-ins Friday for UFC 209 and was deemed medically unfit to compete, forcing officials to remove the planned co-main event for Saturday.
Tony Ferguson, who was scheduled to face Nurmagomedov to crown the interim lightweight champion, successfully weighed in for the fight at 154.5 pounds.
Nurmagomedov, though, never made it to the scale. Instead, he spent much of Friday morning in a Las Vegas hospital according to multiple reports. He has since been released, but will not be allowed to fight this weekend.
Ali Abdel-Aziz, Nurmagomedov’s manager, released a statement to MMA Fighting:
“I feel bad for Tony and his camp, I really do.
“The most important thing right now is Khabib’s health. He’s currently resting in his room. We’re not thinking about what’s next at this time.
“I want to sincerely apologize to Tony, his team, the UFC and the fans. We were all looking forward to this fight very much.”
