As a top contender to the UFC lightweight title, Saturday night’s main event at UFC 185 between champion Anthony Pettis and Rafael dos Anjos is of the utmost importance to Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Nurmagomedov, who will return to action for the first time since last April later this year vs. Donald Cerrone, believes the challenger has what it will take to defeat “Showtime.”
The last time the unbeaten “Eagle” fought, he defeated dos Anjos. However, injuries and timing allowed dos Anjos to move into the role of No. 1 contender.
“I think (dos Anjos) smashes (Pettis) in striking and I think he smashes him on the ground,” Nurmagomedov told MMAFighting.com. “This is my opinion. I don’t know why, but I think he’ll smash him.
“Dos Anjos is no easy (fight). A lot of people watch and think I beat him easy, but it was not easy. It was no easy fight.”
FightLine will have complete coverage of Saturday’s card, including live play-by-play and full results.
