Former Ultimate Fighter winners will coach the next season of The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America, as Kelvin Gastelum and Efrain Escudero have been tabbed to lead lightweights and welterweights later this year.
The series debuts in August and will stream on UFC Fight Pass, while airing live in Mexico and Latin America.
Gastelum (10-1) was the Season 17 winner of the show, while Escudero (23-9) captured the Season 8 title. The two do not compete in the same division, meaning they will now square off after the season ends.
After going 5-0 to start his Octagon career, Gastelum was topped by Tyron Woodley. Escudero, meanwhile, is 4-5 and in his third stint with the UFC.
“Fun fact: The Ultimate Fighter Latin America II coach, Efrain Escudero and I graduated from the same high school Cibola (Arizona),” Gastelum posted on Twitter, adding that he and Escudero are “long-time friends.”
Escudero posted “no we’re not fighting each other, (his) team is going down.”
