Despite being bested by countrywoman Joanna Jedrzejczyk Saturday night at UFC 205, Karolina Kowalkiewicz won herself several new fans.
The challenger went the full 25 minutes with the UFC strawweight champion, dropping a decision and losing for the first time in her 11-fight career.
“It was a very hard fight,” Kowalkiewicz said. “I am proud because I gave everything.”
Kowalkiewicz had scored three consecutive wins to position herself as the No. 1 contender, including a July decision over Rose Namajunas. She was unable to avenge an amateur loss to Jedrzejczyk, who remained unbeaten with the win.
“Maybe next time we can fight in Poland,” she said.
