Josh Barnett Anxious To Get Back, But Looking For Right Fight

For Josh Barnett, things just haven’t matched up for him to make his return to the Octagon.

Barnett last fought in 2013, when his two-fight win streak was snapped at the hands of Travis Browne. Since, the veteran has kept busy with a number of other things, but he’s ready to fight – and soon.

“I don’t have anything locked in yet,” he said, during a recent appearance on The MMA Hour. “The UFC, they’re planning a bazillion events every month. It’s just going to have to take a bit of time until they have an opponent for me and a set date.

“But we are in talks and we’re in constant connection. They’ll let me know as soon as we can get something going.”

A former UFC heavyweight champion, Barnett (33-7) had scored wins in 2013 over Frank Mir and Nandor Guelmino inside of the first round before running into the elbows of Browne.

He mentioned the idea of welcoming Brock Lesnar back to the UFC, but for Barnett, he sees the fight differently than many other who are calling out the current pro wrestler.

“For me, I think of it as the business side of things,” he said. “Not the business side of, ‘Oh, I’m going to make so much money,’ but the business side of two pro wrestlers, the styles; seeing the two of us go at it because people will find interest in it and the fight will be interesting itself.”
