Joseph Benavidez All For Future Fight With Henry Cejudo

Joseph Benavidez would like nothing else than to compete for the UFC flyweight champion again.

However, the former title contender realizes he might have to continue to take out would-be challengers – including an Olympian – to get that opportunity.

During a recent interview with Submission Radio, Benavidez discussed a potential fight with Henry Cejudo, who won Olympic gold in wrestling and is unbeaten since signing with the UFC.

Cejudo would be awesome. It would be an honor to go out and fight an Olympian,” he said. “He’s a super tough guy, I’ve been impressed with his skills. I mean that would be a really, really fun fight that I’d like to compete in.”

For now, Benavidez will just sit and wait to see what the UFC has in store for him. He’s defeated several top flyweights such as John Moraga, Jussier Formiga, Ian McCall and Dustin Ortiz around a pair of setbacks vs. Demetrious Johnson.

“The hard thing for me is that it doesn’t make sense for me in the position that I’m in to call anybody out – you know, besides really (John) Dodson and Demetrious – who I haven’t fought and who’s ranked above me,” he said. “So other than that, it doesn’t make sense to call me out, so it is a hard position. It’s kind of like ‘hey, find me a fight. Please let it be known that I want a fight fast’, and other than that just hoping somebody in the division sees something in me and they wanna test themselves. ‘Cause that’s the easiest way to get a fight. ”
