UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo is expecting Chad Mendes to be the next contender to his title.
Aldo, who recently bested Ricardo Lamas to improve to 24-1 in his career, stopped Mendes in 2012 with a first round knockout in his native country of Brazil.
Recently, the UFC paired contender Cub Swanson with Jeremy Stephens for later this year, leaving “Scarface” to assume Mendes is the next one in.
“It was between Cub and Chad, and I already knew that, but they scheduled the fight for Cub,” said Aldo, during a recent interview with MMAjunkie.com. “For me, it doesn’t matter.
“I fought Chad before and he’s as good of a competitor as any. I’ve also fought Cub, so for me, it’s the same. Both of them earned it.”
Aldo added that he is “already training and thinking about the fight.” He offered no specific timetable for a return, only saying “whenever they decide to put on the fight, I’ll do it.”
