Featherweight champion Jose Aldo is ready to make the move up to lightweight, but apparently his coach Andre Pederneiras and UFC president Dana White didn’t agree.
“Many people talked about moving up and I’ve asked for that,” said Aldo to MMA Fighting. “But Andre and Dana said it wasn’t the right moment. Moving up to lightweight is closer and closer. When they think it’s time to move up, I’ll do it no problem.”
In the meantime, Aldo has been tearing apart the featherweight division. He’s been the champ since 2009 and his belt was promoted from the WEC to UFC ranks. This year, he earned the decision over Frankie Edgar and the doctor stopped his fight with Chan Sung Jung in the championship rounds.
Aldo, who has mentioned how cutting to featherweight is becoming an issue with time, is expected back during 2014.
