Jose Aldo Places Chad Mendes Third In The Featherweight Division

Chad Mendes got his chance at Jose Aldo, but couldn’t stop the featherweight champ. Now with four straight wins, which includes three by first round knockout, Mendes is closing in on another title shot. Aldo has his doubts and named two fighters who deserve the title opportunity first.

“Chad Mendes is still starting, haven’t fought anyone ranked yet, only fought guys that are not that good,” said Aldo to MMA Fighting. “He’s coming off good wins, but he hasn’t beaten good guys. So I believe the next two should be Ricardo Lamas and Cub Swanson.”

At UFC 164, Mendes became the first person to knockout Clay Guida. He took Knockout of the Night for that fight.

Aldo got his seventh title defense at UFC 163. One of those wins came against Mendes in the final second of the opening round of UFC 142.
