UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has heard people talk about Alexander Gustafsson and the kind of match up problems he would pose to “Bones” if they collide.
The two are now scheduled to meet next Saturday night at UFC 165, but upon breaking down “The Mauler,” Jones doesn’t see it.
“I don’t agree with the comparisons,” he said. “The only thing we have in common is we are both 26 years old and over 6-feet tall.
“Outside of that, we are completely different fighters.”
Jones, who would place his name atop the records for most successful title defenses at 205 pounds, added that Gustafsson “does nothing like me. We are completely different. Same height, same age; that’s absolutely it.”
While two champions have already fallen this year, Jones isn’t concerned with that. In fact, his motivation comes from a different source.
“I have a fear of not being a pro athlete on top of my game,” he said. “I want to keep up with my brothers (NFL players Arthur and Chandler Jones).”
