Jon Jones “Out-Grinded” The “King Of The Grind”

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones knew he was the better striker ahead of a meeting with Chael Sonnen.

That didn’t stop him from taking down the well-decorated wrestler and finishing him.

At UFC 182, Jones one-upped Daniel Cormier at his own game, and was proud of his effort in doing so.

“I started to Cormier Cormier,” he said, during the FOX Sports 1 post-fight show. “He held Frank Mir against the cage. He’s my dear friend. I did that to Cormier. I out-grinded him.

“I wanted to prove to him he wasn’t the king of the grind.”

Cormier and his Cage Fighter sponsor created “Break Bones” shirts, so Jones and Reebok countered with “Unbroken” shirts worn by the champion and his team after the decision win.

In the weeks and months leading up to the fight, the two traded verbal jabs in-person, during interviews and on social media. While many times after a grueling battle inside the Octagon the two sides will embrace and move on, Jones wasn’t ready to forgive his challenger.

“I don’t like Daniel Cormier,” he said. “I don’t respect Daniel Cormier. I hope he’s somewhere crying right now. I’m sure he is. I can’t wait until he earns his way back to the title, so I can whoop him again.”
