While the hatred between the two was real, Jon Jones had no problem extending the olive branch to Daniel Cormier at UFC 214.
Jones finished Cormier in the main event Saturday night, reclaiming the light heavyweight title in the process.
“I want to thank Daniel Cormier for being my biggest rival and motivator,” Jones said. “I aspire to be more like that man. He is a true champion for the rest of his life.”
After Jones landed with a head-kick on Cormier, he finished him on the ground. “DC,” who’s only other loss came via decision to Jones, returned to the Octagon after exiting following the finish and told Joe Rogan “I don’t know what happened.”
“I know it hasn’t been easy to root for me, but I have the most loyal fans,” Jones said. “Even the haters. They motivate me to keep fighting.”
As for what might be next for Jones, he didn’t let the opportunity pass him by on the microphone.
“Brock Lesnar,” Jones screamed. “If you want to know what it feels like to get your ass kicked by a guy who weighs 40 pounds less than you, meet me in the Octagon.”
