UFC president Dana White has heard all the criticism surrounding UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.
He’s too big for 205 pounds.
He’s too tall.
He’s too strong.
Well, White believes he has paired “Bones” with the perfect foe to put those complaints to rest in Alexander Gustafsson. The two meet next Saturday at UFC 165 in Toronto.
“He is finally fighting a guy his size,” White said. “They have almost the same reach, they are the same age.
“This is going to be a very interesting fight.”
Gustafsson hasn’t fought since defeating Mauricio “Shogun” Rua last year, as a cut in training forced him out of a planned bout with Gegard Mousasi.
“He is popular in Sweden, the No. 1 contender right now,” White said. “If he wins this fight, he would be a lot more popular everywhere.”
The UFC boss also realizes that Jones’ stock will go through the roof if he takes care of “The Mauler,” stating, “If Jon Jones wins, people can’t make the argument he is too big for the weight class.”
