Jon Fitch for a moment was the No. 2 ranked welterweight. That’s changed and Fitch now looks to get back to his old winning ways. In fact, he wouldn’t mind a trilogy fight with Josh Burkman under the World Series of Fighting (WSOF) banner.
“I still feel like there’s a title out there waiting for me,” said Fitch on MMA Junkie Radio. “I’ve just got to put some wins together and stay healthy. I don’t want to think too far down the road, but hopefully [Burkman] and I can both smash on our opponents and re-do it.”
Their first meeting was years ago under the UFC name, where Fitch would get the submission win in his welterweight debut. Burkman responded with a 41 second guillotine choke victory at June’s WSOF 3.
At WSOF 6, it’s Burkman vs. Steve Carl for the inaugural welterweight championship and Fitch vs. Marcelo Alfaya as the co-main event.
WSOF 6 comes from the BankUnited Center in Coral Gables, FL. The main card airs live on the NBC Sports Network on October 26.
