The man behind the scenes for years in the UFC will be enshrined in the UFC Hall of Fame this July, as the promotion announced Joe Silva as the latest inductee.
Silva will join the “Contributors” wing with the likes of Jeff Blatnick, Charles “Mask” Lewis and Bob Meyroitz.
“To have been a part of the UFC from its early days and to see the heights to which it has risen has been amazing,” Silva said (thanks to MMAjunkie for the quotes). “The martial arts have been my passion since I was a kid, and to have been a part of the sport that has impacted them so much was a wonderful experience. To be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame is a great honor and caps off what has been a wonderful journey.”
Silva retired from his executive role and position as matchmaker in late 2017. He had been with the promotion since 2001 when it was purchased by Zuffa.
Previously, Urijah Faber and Maurice Smith have been named as 2017 inductees.
