Joe Riggs Injury Postpones Fight Master Finals

The finals of the first season of Fight Master are on hold. Finalist Joe Riggs required surgery for a detached retina following a partial orbital bone fracture injury while in training camp. The welterweight was set for this Saturday’s Bellator 98.

“My sparring partner threw a high kick and I blocked it, but his toe went through my head gear,” said Riggs to Sports Illustrated. “I was in horrible pain and they had to pry my eye open to see the damage. I can be ready [to fight] in October or [on] November 2, if they need me.”

Riggs was a favorite to win the entire show and selected Greg Jackson to be his coach. If he didn’t win the reality show, Riggs vowed retirement.

No word on when Riggs will return.

Bellator 98 starts Season 9 and is September 7. It comes from the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, CT and the main card can be seen on Spike TV.
