It looks like Joe Lauzon won’t have to travel very far from home for his next fight.
The Boston Herald reported Tuesday that the Bridgewater, Mass-based lightweight will take on TUF 15 winner Michael Chiesa on the UFC’s September 5th Fight Night card at Foxwoods Resort Casino. Lauzon last fought in December when he won a unanimous decision over Mac Danzig at UFC on Fox 9.
He’s been out of action after the birth of his son, who was born with cancer and has been undergoing chemotherapy. Lauzon has gone 10-6 in his eight-year UFC run, and is tied with Anderson Silva for most post-fight bonuses awarded at 12.
Chiesa has gone 4-1 in the Octagon, with two “Submission of the Night” bonuses of his own. He most recently won an impressive decision win over Francisco Trinaldo at UFC 173 in May.
The bout is the first fight made official for the UFC’s return to Connecticut. The uncommon Friday Fight Night card will go head-to-head on television with Bellator’s Season 11 premiere, which will be held just eight miles down the road at Mohegan Sun. It will be interesting to see how the two cards are filled out, with both promoter’s keeping their competitor in-mind.
