Joaquim Silva wasted not time getting out of the Octagon Friday night at The Ultimate Fighter 23 Finale.
Silva caught an Andrew Holbrook kick, flipped him to the ground and landed with several perfectly-placed right hands, earning a first round finish and dealing Holbrook his first pro loss.
“I am really happy,” said Silva, who earned a split decision win in his UFC debut. “I was telling everyone I would make history and I am really happy.”
The 27-year-old Silva (9-1) had scored a six-second finish during his days in Brazil before signing with the UFC, but this one was more important to him personally and for his career.
“This was just one more step in my path to success,” he said.
